From a Christen to a Kristin - thank you SO much. I like to think of BRCA as a gift, that the older generations wish they knew about. Please don't feel any guilt towards your children, firstly, it is not your fault, and secondly... they have so many options available. It has made me a stronger and more empowered person, so there is much hope. Much love! x

Thank you for doing what you are doing, Christen. It’s so important. I was luckier than your sweet mom and found out that I have a BRCA2 mutation by getting breast cancer (bilateral at that) last year at 49. After a bilateral mastectomy, reconstruction, & 4 rounds of chemo, I am doing well today. The hardest part of this is knowing that it might affect my 3 adult children...my daughter is 20. BUT! At least we now know of this lurking gene & hopefully she will NEVER have to be blindsided by cancer! It is a gift...not a great one...but still a gift. My 77 year old Dad tested positive. It came down from my grandfather (his mom & sister died of ovarian & breast cancer) so it wasn’t anything I’d ever known about it thought to consider a risk for myself. Raising women’s awareness of this sneaky mutation WILL SAVE LIVES! Good for you. Your mum is proud. All my best from Iowa!
