About Us
Say hello to the masterminds driving our charity’s mission, our incredible co-founders! Formed in 2021, they set out to support those dealing with genetic mutations linked to cancer. Their goal is simple yet profound: to spread awareness about these mutations and provide a welcoming space for discussions on prevention, treatment, testing, and the wide range of emotions involved. To read more about their own BRCA journeys, read Christen’s blog here and Lisa’s blog here.
Then we have our amazing board of trustees. Three BRCA Buddies at different stages of their journey and two BRCA Allies. All have come together with one agenda, to improve the support for BRCA+ humans across the UK. Read Alex’s blog here and Ellie’s blog here.

Christen
Co-Founder & Brighton BRCA+ Babe
I love chatting about boobies and ovaries. I was diagnosed with a BRCA2 gene mutation in 2016 after losing my mother to ovarian cancer. Since then I have been on a mission. I found my BRCA alteration and looming cancer cloud a very lonely place – I couldn’t find accessible information or anyone else like me. So, I did something about it.
I started with an anonymous Instagram account – now my face and foobs are all over the internet. I created a YouTube channel with useful information and interviews covering others and my own personal journey.
Oh, and I had my boobies lopped off somewhere along the way.
So, let’s chat boobies, mastectomies, IVF, cancer, body image…the whole shebang! X
Lisa
Co-Founder & Edinburgh BRCA+ Babe
Hey everyone! My name is Lisa and I am a proud BRCA1 gal. I found out I had a BRCA gene alteration at the age of 27 and a single mum to the most incredible toddler, my Emma. I connected with some incredible buddies (specifically the wonderful Christen!) through an Instagram account, I started to try and get the nuch needed (and incredibly lacking) emotional and peer support. After having my double mastectomy and reconstruction, I decided that I couldn’t go through this journey without putting it to good use!
I have recently started a BRCA podcast and hope, alongside some amazing people, the change the BRCA world. Let’s chat! x

Our Alex is BRCA2 positive. He lost his Mum to ovarian cancer 7 years ago, and supported his sister through her preventative mastectomy. Alex wants to raise awareness about the impact on men. He lives with his Dog and Kat (girlfriend), and by day is a scientist. His mum used to cute his hair with a bowl on his head, it was a strong look.
Ellie Howie

Super Ellie is a BRCA1 previvor. Lawyer by day, post-mastectomy lingerie business owner by night. How does she have time to be on the Board? We don’t know, but she smashes it. Most importantly, Ellie can recite the ENTIRE Fresh Prince of Bel Air rap.
Janine Duncan

Janine is a BRCA2 previvor, having both her mastectomy and oophorectomy within the same year. Janine is in charge of our accounts, as a business owner, she knows how to use the till. Janine lives in Brighton with her beloved sausage dog Tiny, and her hubby. She loves to be kinds, and spread happiness and love into the world.
Kate Biles
Trustee
Kate is a BRCA Bud ally, having learnt a lot about it through her BRCA+ friends. Kate has worked for many years in the charity sector, and previously as a civil servant. She lives in Norfolk, is a self-confessed “dotty cat person” and a huge Norwich FC fan. Kate’s life lesson, “beautiful people are beautiful because they do beautiful things“
Lucy Hume
Trustee
Lucy is our newest BRCA+ Chat trustee, and a BRCA Bud ally. She has had a long career in charity fundraising and now brings her passion and enthusiasm for raising lots of monies to BRCA+ Chat! Lucy likes to run. Run far. Run often. Here, there and everywhere. She has a big dog, who should be very good at running but is lazy.
The Team
Alison
BRCA Co-Ordinator & Leeds BRCA+ Babe
Hi everyone. It’s great to be joining the BRCA+ Chat team and to be able to give a little back to the charity. I love being part of this community and it really has made a difference in my life over the past few years whilst going through my preventative surgeries. As a busy mum of two, I like to think that I am an expert at organising (though menopause has certainly had me questioning that recently!) and I am very much looking forward to putting my skills to good use to help wherever I can.

Katie
“Hi, I am Katie!
BRCA+ Chat is an incredibly special charity. When it was confirmed I carry BRCA1 in 2019 I felt very isolated. So, to find a community of wonderful people, all sharing their experiences, showed me that I can be strong on my journey.
I felt honoured to be asked to be the London BRCA+ Babe. Our meet ups allow everyone to share and learn about our journeys and after each one, you come away feeling a warm sense of connection and reassurance. Friendships and a pure sense of community are formed and I so look forward to the many more we will hold.”
BRISTOL
Ruth
I’m Ruth, a BRCA1 mum to three wild boys, and Barley the dog!
I had my double mastectomy in 2020, and a bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy in 2022. You’ll find me by the side of a football pitch whether I like it or not, happiest outside and surrounded by my fam!
I’m passionate about sharing what I’ve gone through to help others dancing through the same.

Alex
Hey! I’m Alex, I’m a two-time breast cancer survivor with a BRCA2 genetic mutation. I’m a glass-half-full kinda girl. I love travelling, living life to the full and doing fun stuff with my kids. By day, I’m dedicated to launching my own business focused on designing post-surgery bras for breast cancer survivors.
As a BRCA2 carrier, I had already decided I wanted preventative surgery before I discovered that I had breast cancer. I love what Christen is doing with the BRCA+ CHAT charity and therefore happily volunteered to be a BRCA+ Babe and facilitate local meet-ups. Because who doesn’t love a social soirée?

Daniella
I’m Dannii, and I’m a BRCA+ Babe!
BRCA+ Chat helped me so much when I found out that I had the BRCA2 alteration and in the lead up to my mastectomy. I found connection, empowerment, understanding and huge confidence. What a positive thing to come out of something terrible!
I love hearing how other warriors are navigating life, no matter where they are on their journey, and sharing in the cheerleading atmosphere that this charity does so well.
